The vendors package this up with a plug that fits into the OBDII connector on your car on one end and some form of rs compatible interface on the other. Do any of the LEDs on the device light up in any way when you type and hit return? It must not be compatible? I forgot where exactly, but if you grep through the files and look where the names are coming from you can actually just add your device directly. I personally do not like using the evil empire’s operating system so I looked for free Linux solutions to this interface issue. December 7, at It’s actually a fiesta, I think the codes sometimes mean slightly more specific things for some manufacturers than others! I did want to play around with it from code, so the ELM would actually respond to automated requests, etc.
Although I know some friendly garage mechanics I wondered what was involved in checking and clearing these codes myself. With my timestamp update, log lines now look like this: Rlm327 example, freediag looks interesting. I managed this with the “ScanTool” program, downloaded from the ScanTool. This would have turned on line feeds in the ELM interface and scrolled limux screen during each reply from the ELM so the 1st char of the responses was not overwritten, however its understandable without this and even clearer if you try it yourself and add this command.
I have followed the steps to change the dialout and my terminal says it is COM1. Download a copy of the updated main. I’ve connected android apps to a Bluetooth OBD reader and it elm237 fine. Scantool – OBDII Car Diagnostic Software for Linux
I tried different connection speeds changing it in the source code pyodb but without success, I will continue investigating. Do to my lack of python experience I never got this to run in Linux either, but it maybe worth trying. I did not know about ‘screen’ until I watched eml327 video.

setting up an OBD2 Bluetooth adapter
I have a bluetooth elm shopped at a Chinese website. The gnome bluetooth software only gave me trouble. In my case, the pyobd Configuration screen does not display ttyUSBx devices due to wrong port-scanning formats.
