Windows Setup Info File

The INF file format was developed as a plain text format by Microsoft. These .inf files are also known as setup information files and are used when installing Windows applications, device drivers, and firmware components.

When a user downloads a device driver installer or a Windows application installation package, an INF file is normally included. The data stored in these .inf files are normally settings in plain text format, including directory locations of required resources, installation folders, device configurations, default settings, etc.
